Here’s a math trick I’ve seen before that was posted on one of the horse forums I frequently read and the underlying explanation for how it works.
Trick:

Don’t tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway… but, your instructor may know!!
YOUR AGE BY RIDING MATH
DON’T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It [...]

November Celebrations

Three Cheers for Obama! The next four years will be exciting (and hopefully better than the last eight)! Time for some change, I think!
I am slightly sad that it looks like the Dems won’t pick up 60 senate seats.
However more good new that I’m excited about is that the Parkland bond issue passed in [...]

According to this NYtimes article, everything my P.E. teachers and sports coaches ever told me about stretching is wrong. Sigh.
The Cartoon Lounge has been having some election related posts, including some that have some great one-liners. From one of today’s posts:
“..those who want to leave Iraq, those who want to stay in Iraq, and [...]

This is fascinating.
Voting habits and amazon book buying habits.
Basically, voting patterns of the rich (the second graph) correspond remarkably well with the types of political books people are buying on Amazon. Fascinating.

Flatbed trailers

Casey Jane (the mare I’ve been riding and working with) and I have been playing with the flatbed trailer. Sometimes she’s slightly skeptical of going over or on top of things, and although I’ve never tried to trailer load her, I imagine she’s not super confident about it.

So Farley Katz, of the New Yorker, challenged Ryan North, of XKCD, to a cartoon-off On the following topics:
The Internet, as envisioned by the elderly.
String Theory.
1999.
Your favorite animal eating your favorite food.
Ryan North’s response to the 4th question is most excellent.

It’s all relative…

I found myself excited yesterday that gas had dropped below $3.00/gallon. My first thought was wow!, cheap gas.
Here’s a link someone sent me recently: http://www.google.com/search2001.html. In honor of their 10th birthday, Google has released it’s oldest index, from Jan 2001. Searching around a bit I found a couple of articles from 1999 where concerned citizens [...]

Three-legged Dogs

We got our dog cadavers in anatomy today. The past two weeks we’ve been learning bones, but now we actually get to start dissecting the dog. This week we’re starting on muscles and joints, mostly of the front limb. (Our anatomy lab meets for ~9 hours a week, so we’re going to be spending a [...]

Bones, bones, bones.
September 5th, 2008 · No Comments
I have my first big vet school test later on this morning–the bone test. Not only every bone in the body of the dog, but every hole, bump, ridge, indention, canal, spine, etc., on every bone, plus a few comparisons with the cat skeleton and a dozen or so origins and insertions for major muscles [...]
